is an award-winning photographer and author who shares the stories of people’s lives through photographic portraits and first-person narrative interviews. Through her work, she seeks to break down barriers and stereotypes and allow for the discovery and celebration of common ground. Ottesen is the author and photographer of Activist: Portraits of Courage and Great Americans and co-author and photographer of When You Hear Me. She has been a regular contributor to The Washington Post Magazine and her photos and interviews have appeared in many other national and international publications. Ottesen earned a BA from Wesleyan and an MBA from Yale, and lives in Washington, DC with her family.
